Nathan Wilson (b. 1960) received his BA from the University of Vermont in 1982 where he majored in English and Fine Art. In 1984, Wilson moved to Maine where he studied for two years with the late Neil Welliver before entering the BFA/MFA program at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. Upon receiving his master’s degree in Fine Art in 1989, he moved to New York City and Truro, Massachusett. During this time his work was largely of an abstract nature, influenced by the painters DeKooning, Mitchell and Diebenkorn. Wilson began showing in Provincetown and in 1990-1991 showed with the UFO (Universal Fine Objects) Gallery in Provincetown, had a one-person exhibit in 1991, and was one in a group show titled “Five Young Painters” at the Provincetown Art Association & Museum; his work remains in their permanent collection. For the next three years Wilson continued his exploration of abstract expressionist painting and exhibited his work in annual invitational shows at Blue Mountain Gallery in New York. During this time, feeling somewhat dissatisfied with the direction his abstract work was taking, he returned to his roots in representational and landscape painting, now looking at Welliver, Porter, Freilicher, Freud and Morandi. His paintings have been included in invitational exhibits and regional events ranging from the annual ARTcetera auctions and Aids Action Committee benefits in Boston to the Helen Day Arts Center in Stowe, Vermont. Nathan Wilson works in Concord, Massachusetts where he lives with his wife Megan and their dogs Ozzie and Doogan. Solo and Group Shows Chase Young Gallery Corporate Collections
